It's made using goldwork embroidery, which I'm a relative newcomer to.

The starling is one of my favourite birds, with its oil slick rainbow brightness and calls like a curious dial up modem. And although it's one of the most common birds in the UK numbers have been falling for decades - the starling was red listed in Birds of Conservation Concern 2002 report due to rapid population decline, and has remained there on every report since.

I think of the starling as a symbol for how fragile familiar things can be, and how part of our environment that we may take for granted is really something to be treasured.
