Patch 054
PATCH MAKER: Jackie
LOCATION: Lewes
MESSAGE:
It's taken me a while to work out what I wanted to depict on the patch. I was thinking of my sanctuary, at Malling Hill on the Downs, near Lewes. Sometimes I like to look out across the river towards Newhaven and the sea on the horizon, to see the bigger picture.
Other times I like to sit and look at the flowers and foliage. Both gazes are calming, restoring my peace and inspiring my work. This patch depicts recent wild flower observations, with the seeds just beginning to form as the bloom fades.
I hand wove the patch with cotton, linen, horsehair and wool yarns, cut it from the loom and then applied it to a backing piece of blanket.
